Artist Statement
I am a storyteller, bridge builder and border dweller. I am a First Nations woman. I come from a lineage of storytellers and craftsmen, mukluk makers, trappers, and intellectuals. I am one of them.
Each of the materials I have used are emblematic of an idea, problem, failure, or hint at the anticipation of redemption. By seeking out traditional methods for making – inks, dyes and building my own substrates and frames and hand making my papers, I engage my work with the intent of cultural knowledge reclamation, while making space for personal and spiritual expression.
I am a believer in a post-religious culture, a steward of the earth and caregiver of its inhabitants. I create as a bridge-builder and border dweller. I create to find and heal those spaces that divide us from our Creator, each other, the earth, and ourselves. My works tell the story of loss and restoration, unbounded sorrow, and defiant hope.
